About Roxana

Roxana Reyes has worked in Social Services and Mental Health in the Sacramento area since 1997. She has serviced children, youth, adults and families in a variety of settings including foster care, group homes, homeless and gang violence prevention programs. She currently works at UC Davis in Counseling and Psychological Services to provide clinical and consultation services to marginalized students on campus. She is a certified Narrative Therapist and received her training from the School of Narrative Therapy in Vancouver, British Colombia. She worked under the supervision of Narrative therapist, Dr. David Nylund, at La Familia Counseling Center, Inc. for eight years and is also trained in Infant Mental Health.

Roxana also worked as a school counselor at local middle schools and high schools in Sacramento.  This experience expanded her knowledge of the educational system navigated  by students and their families due  to learning disabilities and mental health challenges.  As a school counselor, she also focused on behavioral management to assist young students in finding their motivation to manage their personal and social challenges while achieving their academic goals.

Roxana is currently a clinical supervisor at the Gender Health Center in Sacramento and a supervising therapist at UC Davis for the pre-doctoral emphasis area of working with AB540 and Undocumented Students.

Roxana is a cultural dance enthusiast. She has taught traditional Mexican dance at various schools and colleges in the past 18 years. She founded the traditional Mexican dance group, Raices de Mi Tierra, and served as its Artistic Director from 1995- 2013. In 2005, Roxana opened the Sacramento Cultural Arts Center and organized classes to foster communication, self confidence and cultural awareness in the community. She served as the director of the SCAC for seven years and hopes to incorporate cultural dance in her psychotherapy practice in the near future.

Roxana enjoys working with culturally diverse clients including Chican@/Latin@, Asian Pacific Islander, African/African American, South East Asian and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender folks. Roxana is a mother of two and a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
